Pretoria – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has retained Ward 56 in Tshwane with an 80 percent landslide victory in a by-election.
Commenting on the victory, Alderman Cilliers Brink, DA Tshwane Caucus Leader, said: “We are grateful to the voters of Ward 56 Tshwane who have given the DA a resounding mandate”.
Brink said the DA’s hand in Tshwane was strengthening with every by-election held.
“This victory comes on a day that we have seen duplicity and political power play in Johannesburg, which reveal the true colors of parties in Tshwane too,” the alderman said.
“It is clear that the current ANC-EFF-ActionSA coalition leaves little hope for the people of Tshwane. This by-election result is an affirmation of the City’s belief in the DA.
“The results show extraordinary momentum toward the upcoming Local Government Election.”
The DA’s vote share grew from 50.05% in the 2024 Election in this Ward to a resounding 80% in this 2025 by-election.
“The 2026 Elections are around the corner, and the DA is committed to ensuring that stability and effective leadership returns to the City of Tshwane, but that can only happen with a strong DA,” said Brink.
He said the outcome of the by-election on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, was a step in that direction.
“Tshwane is ready for change,” Brinks declared.
“We welcome newly elected Councillor Tiaan Dippenaar to the DA Tshwane caucus, where he will assist us in holding a failing executive to account.”
