Greylingstad – A head-on collision between a BMW and VW on the R23, between Greylingstad and Val in Mpumalanga, has left six people dead.
The deadly crash, which left no survivors, occurred on Friday night (27 June 2025).
Both cars had three occupants.
Five males and a woman were certified dead by paramedics at the crash scene.
Commenting on the horror crash, Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie said that while the cause of the crash was not yet known, bad driving could not be ruled out.
“Based on the scene’s situational analysis, it is suspected that contraventions of the rules, excessive speeding, and dangerous overtaking may have caused the collision,” the MEC said.
Lamenting the deaths from road crashes, MEC Macie sent his condolences to the bereaved families.
“Every driver has a responsibility to comply with the rules. Reckless driver behaviour, excessive speeding, and dangerous overtaking remain the leading causes of deadly crashes, especially at night,” MEC Macie said.
“It is, therefore, incumbent upon every driver to be extremely vigilant when they take to the road.”
The MEC reiterated that the importance of obeying the rules cannot be emphasised, given the number of deadly crashes.
The identities of the dead have not yet been made public.
In another deadly crash in Mpumalanga on Saturday morning (28 June 2025), three people, including a minor, were killed when a sedan collided with a truck on the N4 in Mbombela.

“Two people sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to the nearby hospital in Mbombela for medical attention.”
