Durban – A security officer has been shot dead while trying to prevent a robbery on Lenny Naidu Drive in Chatsworth, South of Durban.

The robbery occurred this morning, Sunday, 13 July 2025.

ALS Paramedics together with Amawele Medics responded to the incident at about 09:45.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said on arrival they were informed that there had been an armed robbery at a Tote facility.

The security officer is believed to have tried to stop the suspects and was shot in the process.

“The man believed to be in his 40s had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased on the scene,” lamented Jamieson.

“One other bystander had sustained minor injuries and was stabilised on the scene before being transported to a nearby Hospital for further care that he required.”

Police were on the scene.

One of the two armed robbers has been apprehended by Griffith P.T. Alarms, and the stolen cash has been recovered.
