Moscow – Russia is moving full steam ahead to ensure that biometrics will work on all metro turnstiles at train stations in the capital by the end of this year.

Commenting on the progress this week, Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow, responsible for the city’s transport and infrastructure sectors, assured that all payment equipment for access to train stations will be connected to the service by the end of 2025.

Liksutov said work was completed on Line 8A last week, when the biometrics system was installed at 138 turnstiles.

The biometrics system is already a convenient way to pay for travel at all turnstiles on the following Lines:

  • Line 16
  • Line 12
  • Line 15
  • Lines 4 and 4A

“Moscow is the world leader in the number of transport types where biometric payment is available,” said Liksutov.

“The payment service works on the metro, MCC, Aeroexpress, regular river routes, and some MCD stations.

“The most modern way to pay for travel can be used on about 1.5 thousand turnstiles of urban transport.”

Liksutov added: “Following the instructions of the Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, we will continue to develop the best Russian payment solutions for user convenience in the capital’s transport”.
