Johannesburg – All former mine workers in the Ekurhuleni district have been urged to register for Social Security Benefits for occupational diseases acquired during their work in the mining sector.
The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) announced that registration begins this morning, Monday, 21 July 2025, from 08:00 at various sites across the district to ensure that eligible ex-mine workers can access their unclaimed benefits and medical surveillance.
The registration period will remain open until 22 August 2025.
“Ex-mine workers and their families are encouraged to visit designated registration sites during the registration period,” stated the GDoH in a terse statement made available to The Bulushes.
The GDoH said registration can be done between 08:00 and 16:00 on weekdays at the following venues:
- Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital
- Training Centre Hall, Vosloorus
- Bertha Gxowa Hospital
- Dr. Clarence Mini Hall, Germiston
- Tambo Memorial Hospital
- Villa Nerina Hall, Boksburg
- Pholosong Hospital
- Auditorium and Lapa, Tsakane
“To facilitate a smooth registration process, ex-mine workers are advised to bring their Makhulu-skop (Mineworker’s Identity card), ID documents, and any relevant paperwork from their mining companies,” advised the GDoH.
