Durban – A couple has been killed and six others injured in a house fire on Midmar Road in Shallcross.
ALS Paramedics Medical Services Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the fire occurred just after 06:30 on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.
“ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene to find the Ethekweni Fire Department already on the scene and fighting the blaze,” said Jamieson.
“Paramedics stood by and assessed six occupants who had managed to escape from the residence and had sustained minor injuries.”

When the fire was extinguished, paramedics entered the house.
“Unfortunately, a gruesome discovery of a couple believed to be in their late sixties that had suffered fatal injury as a result of the fire,”
“Both persons, a male and a female, were declared deceased on the scene.
“At this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown.”
The dead couple have since been identified as Donovan and Racheal Chetty.
They are survived by five children, 15 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren
Police were on the scene and will be investigating further.
