WANTED: Jabulani Moyo is on the run after allegedly fatally shooting two police officers and escaping from custody

Johannesburg – With a bounty of R150 000 for his re-arrest, Jabulani Moyo, who allegedly shot dead two police officers before making his daring escape, remains elusive.

The Zimbabwean was on trial for a business robbery that took place in February 2023, when he allegedly committed the heinous crime of fatally shooting Detective Warrant Officer Vuyisile Sintwa and Sergeant Simon Masenya.

While being taken back to prison after a court appearance on Friday, 8 August 2025, Moyo allegedly disarmed and fatally shot the two police officers in the Roodepoort CBD.

Soon after the shooting, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “The sergeant was certified dead on the crime scene while the warrant officer was taken to the hospital, where he was certified dead on arrival.

“Moyo was seen driving the police vehicle that was later found abandoned a few kilometres from the crime scene.”

Police investigators found leg irons and cartridges on the crime scene.

The guns belonging to the police officers were missing – making Moyo armed and dangerous.

Acting Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia has visited the families of the two police officers murdered by Moyo.

He also lamented the murder of another police officer, Sergeant Lawrence Dumisani Mtshweni, in Mpumalanga.

The 47-year-old officer was fatally shot while responding to a business burglary near Komatipoort in the early hours of Saturday, 9 August 2025.

Acting Police Minister Cachalia has assured the families of the deceased officers that the South African Police Service is hard at work to ensure that those responsible for these heinous crimes are brought to book.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station or call Crime stop on 08600 10111.
