Polokwane – Makhado police have launched a manhunt for two gunmen who fatally shot a 38-year-old male motorist whose car had broken down along the N1 South near the Ben Lavin road turn-off in Limpopo
Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the Limpopo police spokesperson, said the motorist was shot dead on Saturday, 16 August 2025, at around 19:00.
Narrating events leading to the murder, Brigadier Mashaba said: “The deceased, who was the driver, was traveling with three passengers, in a white Toyota Corolla from Gauteng to Musina, when they got a breakdown along the N1 South road, under the Makhado policing area”.
Brigadier Mashaba said the motorist was signalling for assistance to passing motorists.
“A white Toyota Fortuner stopped, and two unknown males approached them as if they were going to offer assistance,” the police spokesperson said.
“The suspects asked for the driver of the Toyota Corolla.
“Upon being pointed out, one of the suspects immediately produced a firearm and shot at the identified driver several times.
“The other three occupants ran in different directions for their safety. The suspects then boarded their vehicle and fled from the scene.”
Brigadier Mashaba said the police were summoned to the scene. They arrived on the scene with the paramedics.
”Upon arrival, he [shot motorist] was certified dead after sustaining severe injuries. His identity is currently withheld for investigation purposes,” Brigadier Mashaba said.
“Police opened a case of murder.
“The motive behind the murder is currently unknown, but further Police investigations will determine.”
