WANTED: Robbery suspect Muluvhu Gumani has escaped from lawful custody

Polokwane – Robbery suspect, 34-year-old Muluvhu Gumani, has escaped from a police van while being transported to court.

Police in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, have launched a manhunt for Gumani and  have asked the public to tell them if they spot him.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Gumani, who was arrested for a robbery, escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025.

“The preliminary reports suggest that the police were transporting 13 awaiting trial prisoners to Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court, and while on their way, at the robots [intersection], one of the suspects allegedly forced the police vehicle door open, and fled on foot,” said Colonel Ledwaba.

“We are appealing to members of the community, not to attempt to apprehend the suspect for their safety.”

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Muluvhu Gumani (escapee) may contact Detective Captain Sydney Dama on: 082 469 1035, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, alternatively, use MySAPSApp
