Johannesburg – Founder of Forensics For Justice, Paul O’Sullivan, says KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) South African Police Service (SAPS) Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkwanazi is trying to silence him by issuing a defamation summons.
“Today, 2025-09-16, in a desperate attempt to silence a whistleblower, Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi has issued a defamation summons against me, claiming R5 000 000 in damages, for allegations I have levelled against him,” said O’Sullivan.
“Curiously, in his summons, he does not make any denials whatsoever, but only demands R5 000 000.
“In doing so, Mkhwanazi either hopes to set a national record for damages, as the largest ever defamation damages claim awarded in South Africa, is a mere fraction of that amount, or he hopes to silence me.
“He is mistaken on both counts.”
O’Sullivan said Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi chooses to issue a summons, instead of answering to the very serious allegations against him.
“In doing so, he has forgotten that it was his unlawful conduct that triggered the allegations I made against him, when he chose to stand up and lie to the media and the people of South Africa on 2025-07-06,” said the Founder of Forensics For Justice, on the eve of the Madlanga Commission.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference, and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, which was triggered by allegations made by Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi, begins tomorrow, Wednesday, 17 September 2025.
Lieutenant-General Mkhwnazi, who is scheduled to be the first witness of the inquiry, could not be reached at the time of publishing this story.
Meanwhile, O’Sullivan stated that he has reported the findings of his investigations into Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi’s affairs to authorities.
The private investigator also claimed the KZN police commissioner was a subject of investigations by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation for matters he declined to disclose.
“I do not intend to go into the details of the very serious allegations Mkhwanazi faces, as some are already under investigation, and are now the subject of litigation brought by him,” O’Sullivan asserted.
