Mashishing (Formerly Lydenburg) – Hospital cleaner, 39-year-old Rose Mnisi, who was arrested for being in possession of human organs, has been granted bail of R10 000 by the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court in Mashishing, Mpumalanga.
The accused allegedly intended to sell the human organs described as placentas, but police said they were tipped off and arrested her.
Mnisi was employed as a cleaner of maternity wards at Lydenburg Hospital when she was arrested in Voortrekker Street in Mashishing on 17 September 2025.
The Mpumalanga Department of Health has since suspended Mnisi and warned that any other employee found to have taken part in the sale of placentas will be charged accordingly.
The hospital cleaner appeared in court today, Thursday, 25 September 2025, and was granted bail of R10 000.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the matter was adjourned to 4 November 2025 pending further probe.
Debates on social media suggested that human organs can be used for traditional medicine or muti.
The placentas were reportedly illegally removed from the hospital’s medical waste.
