Pretoria – Reports have surfaced that Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa has been found dead outside a hotel where he had booked a room on the 22nd floor in Paris, France.
Responding to the reports on Tuesday, 30 September 2025, Chrispin Phiri, Spokesperson for the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, said: “We are aware of unfortunate reports pertaining to Ambassador Nathi Mthethwa we will issue a statement once there is official information”.
A report in the Mirror said the South African ambassador to France disappeared yesterday, but his body was found today at the Hyatt Hotel in Paris after he fell from the 22nd floor.
The Mirror quoted the Paris prosecutor’s office as saying the 58-year-old ambassador was reported missing by his wife, “who indicated having received a worrying message from him in the evening.
“His body was eventually found nearby, outside the famous Hayatt Hotel in Porte Maillot.
“He had booked a room on the 22nd floor, whose secure window was forced open.”
