Germiston – City of Ekurhuleni MMC for Water and Sanitation Councillor Thembi Msane has commissioned the new Ililiba water tower in Tembisa.
The 2ML tower boosts water pressure for areas such as Ililiba, Emangweni, Emoyeni, Isekelo, and Endulweni, providing a significant relief to these communities and those who are in high-lying areas.
The tower commissioned today, Wednesday, 8 October 2025, is equipped with a generator to ensure continuous water flow in cases of power supply interruptions.
It also has a state-of-the-art, remote consumption-monitoring technology for immediate intervention by engineers.

Water towers serve a critical function by storing potable water at an elevated height, which uses gravity to generate pressure for water distribution.
This gravity-driven pressure ensures consistent and reliable water flow without constant pumping to meet peak demand and reduce operational costs.
The City of Ekurhuleni also revealed that it was constructing several other key water infrastructure projects, including the Kempton Park Reservoir, Fairleads Reservoir, Edelweiss Tower, and Almac Reservoir, to further bolster water reliability and sustainability.
Water and Sanitation MMC Thembi Msane thanked residents for their patience during construction.
She stated that providing clean, reliable, and sustainable water remains the city’s responsibility.
MMC Msane encouraged residents to report leaks and avoid using fire hydrants for non-essential use, and to practice water conservation.
Representatives of the community also expressed their gratitude to the city for completing the project.
