Durban – Veteran politician Tony Yengeni has joined the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) and has been appointed second deputy president.
The former African National Congress chief whip was introduced by MK Party leader Jacob Zuma at a media briefing on Thursday, 23 October 2025.
Former president Zuma announced that he has appointed Yengeni as the second deputy president of the MK Party.
Former Western Cape Judge President, John Hlophe, is the MK Party’s first deputy president.
“As you have heard, uMkhonto weSizwe is growing, as it is one of the bigger political parties in the country, and it is indeed there to change the situation of our country, as those who were given chances failed to do,” Zuma said.
He said that as the second deputy president, Yengeni has been tasked with growing the MK Party, while the first deputy president, Hlophe, will now focus on issues related to Parliament.
Yengeni said the problems of this country were primarily due to leadership, adding that many leaders love themselves more than they love their people or the country.
He, however, said Zuma was different in that regard.
