Pretoria – Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for the weekend murder of two young women in Mamelodi, Tshwane.
Soon after, community members found the bodies of cousins 21-year-old Baleseng Moramaga and 22-year-old Tshiamo Moramaga on the side of a road on Sunday, 26 October 2025.
Soon after the bodies were found with gunshot wounds, shocking images and a video clip of the dead women lying next to a street were circulated on social media.
Amid growing demands for the police to act swiftly to solve the murders and arrest the culprit(s), the Aubrey Tau Foundation offered a R250 000 reward for information that would lead to the arrests.
However, on Monday, 27 October 2025, the police reported that they had made an arrest.
Responding to the arrest, the Aubrey Tau Foundation said it would now donate the R250 000 offered as a reward to the families of the deceased.
Apparently, a third woman was also shot and wounded.
The police said their investigation revealed that a third victim, who was shot during the incident, was receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
In a post on X, Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the police acted on a tip-off and arrested the suspect at a filling station in Pretoria.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Mamelodi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.
Meanwhile, NotInMyName International, which said it stands in profound grief and outrage at the brutal murder of the two young cousins, revealed that they were shot dead in Mamelodi East, Tshwane, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“This horrific incident, where neighbours report hearing arguments preceding the gunshots, has left another two families shattered and a community reeling from the relentless violence against women,” said NotInMyName International Secretary-General Themba Masango.
“This tragedy is a stark and painful reminder of the epidemic of gender-based violence (GBV) that continues to plague our nation.”
