Polokwane – Police have launched a manhunt for two assailants who tied up and beat a 77-year-old farmer to death before making off with a gun, cellphones, and an undisclosed amount of money.
Narrating events leading to the deadly farm attack, police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said two intruders entered a farmhouse on a farm near Baltimore, Capricorn district, Limpopo on Saturday, 29 November 2025.
“At around 16:00, the 77-year-old (farmer) left the farmhouse to check his cattle around his farm,” said Colonel Ledwaba.
“Then two male suspects sneaked in and entered the farmhouse, and tied a female victim (farmer’s wife) inside the house.
“Upon arrival of the husband at the farm, he was surprised to see the intruders, who also tied him up at knifepoint.”
Colonel Ledwaba said the intruders severely assaulted the farmer before they fled the scene.
The farmer’s wife managed to report the incident to the farm watch.
“The police, as well as neighbouring farmers, upon reaching the scene they found that the 77-year-old was still tied up and was unconscious,” said Colonel Ledwaba.
“The EMS declared him dead on their arrival at the scene. His identity is still being withheld as part of the ongoing investigation.”
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said a firearm, cellphones, and an undisclosed amount of money were reported stolen.
