Johannesburg – The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) says it notes the resignation of Tshepo Lucky Montana as a Member of Parliament.
The former chief executive officer of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa between 2010 and 2015 was elected as a member of the National Assembly, representing the MK Party in the 2024 South African general election.
Confirming Montana’s resignation on Monday, 1 December 2025, the MK Party said he served the party with “steadfast objectivity, constructive guidance and principled contributions that have strengthened our caucus and sharpened our collective political effectiveness”.
The MK party said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes that: “His calm but firm leadership and strategic insight have served as an inspiration to many, especially the younger cadres who looked to him for consistency, discipline, and revolutionary wisdom.
“His service to the movement and to the people of South Africa has been marked by loyalty, courage, and unwavering conviction.
“Although his departure from Parliament has been accepted, the MK Party takes comfort in knowing that he remains part of the continued struggle for the total emancipation of the black child as a committed member of the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party.”
The statement released by MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela did not say why Montana quit his more than one-million-rand-a-year MP position.
Montana recently made headlines over his public tussle with the South African Revenue Service (SARS) regarding his tax debt.
SARS disclosed that the former Prasa CEO has a tax debt of R55 million – something Montana disputed.
Montana resigned from Prasa in July 2015 amid allegations of abuse of his position.
