Tonga – Amid a heightened anti-Gender-Based Violence campaign, 48-year-old Sipho Difference Ngomane has been arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his police sergeant wife, 43-year-old Joyce Vuyisile Ngomane.
The deadly knife attack occurred at the couple’s home in Ntunda, near Tonga, Mpumalanga, on Tuesday night, 2 December 2025.
Last month, the government launched the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign running from 25 November to 10 December 2025.
The campaign is themed: “Letsema: Men, Women, Boys and Girls working together to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF)”.
But it seems the message did not make a difference to Difference Ngomane.
Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said policemen patrolling in the Ntunda area were alerted about a “domestic violence” incident at a nearby residence.
“Upon approaching the premises, members encountered a male person holding a knife,” the police spokesperson said.
“Members then disarmed him and entered the premises, where they discovered a lifeless body of the female victim, bearing multiple stab wounds.”
The accused, Ngomane, was arrested on the scene and on Friday, 5 December 2025, appeared in the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga, facing a charge of murder.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday, 9 December 2025.
Commenting on the matter, Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi condemned the murder of police sergeant Ngomane.
“This loss of life is a severe one to the SA Police Service family. We send our condolences to the family,” Major General Mkhwanazi said.
“It is concerning that incidents of this nature continue to take place during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign.
“We are adamant that the suspect will face the full might of the law.”
