Durban –  A car crash in the central business district involving two vehicles left one person dead.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the collision occurred just after 7 pm on Saturday, at the corner of Shepstone Road and Pine Street.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as they found the two badly damaged vehicles in the roadway, with one vehicle on its roof,” said Jamieson.

“Immediately, paramedics assessed the scene and found multiple casualties.”

Jamieson said more ambulances, as well as Advanced Life Support paramedics, were dispatched to assist.

“Paramedics found that one person, a male believed to be in his 30s, had sustained fatal injuries, and he was declared deceased on the scene,” the ALS Paramedics spokesperson said.

“One male had sustained critical injuries, and six others sustained moderate injuries.”

Jamieson said once all of the injured had been stabilised on the scene by Advanced Life Support paramedics, they were transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.

“At this stage, the events leading up to the crash are unknown.”

SA Police Service officers and Metro police were at the crash scene.
