Polokwane – In a bizarre twist to a deadly orgy of violence, the suspect sought by police in connection with the brutal attack of a woman and the murder of another has been found dead in his home in Limpopo.

“’The suspect, Dennis Hlako-Mabetwa, who was on the run after allegedly attacking a woman with a sharp object in Mookgophong and later strangling his partner to death in Seshego on Monday, 26 January 2026, is believed to have committed suicide,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said at the weekend.

“He was found hanging inside his home in Mookgopong on Friday afternoon, 30 January 2026.

“Emergency Medical services were summoned to the scene, where he was certified dead.”

Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the cases of attempted murder and murder will now be handled in line with standard SA Police Service procedures, including an inquest docket to determine the circumstances surrounding Hlako-Mabetwa’s death.
