ANC And DA Retain Seats In Gauteng, Western Cape By-Elections

Johannesburg – The African National Congress (ANC) retained its seat in Gauteng while the Democratic Alliance (DA) won seats in the Western Cape in the by-elections held on Tuesday, 3 February 2026.

The Electoral Commission announced the results of the by-elections on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.

Gauteng: The new ANC Councillor is:

• Daniel Ramora Malebo in ward 02 in the Mogale City Municipality, GT481.

The ANC retained the seat it won in the 2021 Municipal Elections with 57.19% of the total votes cast, compared to 73.04% in the 2021 Municipal Elections.

Voter turnout was 37.55%.

Western Cape: The new DA Councillor is:

Paulus Jacobus Strauss in ward 04 in the Cederberg Municipality, WC012. The DA won the seat with 35.03 % of the total votes cast.

The seat was previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, in which they attained with 31.40% total votes. Voter turnout was 54.06%.

The new DA Councillor is:

Daniël Barranor Baadjies in ward 04 in the Langeberg Municipality, WC026. The party won the seat with 40.47 % of the total votes cast.

The seat was previously held by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, in which they attained with 36.53% total votes. Voter turnout was 55.22%.
