Johannesburg – The police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 23-year-old man was shot at a house in Hyde Park, reportedly belonging to the family of the late Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe.

Police were seen outside the residence in the plush suburb after shots were heard.

Earlier reports on Thursday, 19 February 2026, said a standoff with police ended after Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the late Zimbabwe president, opened the gate.

Police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said: “According to information at hand, the victim is an employee at this residence and has been taken to the hospital”.

Without naming the persons arrested at the house, Colonel Nevhuhulwi said: “The K9 unit, Bramley station detectives and Forensic Crime Scene Management are processing the scene and two men aged 28 and 33 years have been taken in for questioning.

“The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage, and police investigations are underway.”

[UPDATE]

Police are still searching for the firearm used to shoot what they now say is the 23-year-old GARDERNER at the home of the son of former President Robert Mugabe.
