Intruders Break Into Chochocho Home, Fatally Shoot Couple Found Asleep, Motive Uknown

Mbombela (Nelspruit) – Armed intruders broke into a house in Chochocho, near Masoyi in Hazyview, and fatally shot a couple as they lay asleep in their bed.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said the reason behind the fatal shooting was unknown.

On Sunday, 15 March 2026, shocked onlookers watched as the bodies were carried out of the house.

Colonel Masondo said: “It is reported that a couple was asleep in their house when the suspect/s forced entry and shot at them.

“Both victims were certified dead on the scene.

“The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage.”

The police spokesperson said the victims were a 45-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman.

The deceased couple was identified by family members and neighbours as Masotja Ngomane and Mpumi Shongwe.

Colonel Masondo said the police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for the suspect .

Anyone with information on the armed intruders and their whereabouts is urged to visit the nearest police station or call the police national toll-free number 08600 10111.
