Johannesburg – Five South African women who tried to smuggle drugs worth millions of rand concealed in their undergarments, shoes, and bodies were arrested at OR Tambo International Airport over the Weekend

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said police and Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) officials arrested five South African “female drug mules” on Saturday, 28 March 2026.

She said the suspects were arrested at OR Tambo International Airport with drugs worth more than R5 million that were concealed on their bodies and shoes.

“A preliminary report suggests that the suspects were en route to China via Dubai,” said Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.

“A search led to the discovery of drugs concealed inside their sneakers, underwear, and private parts.”

The suspects are expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, on charges related to drug trafficking.

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk said investigations were ongoing.
