The bicycles were handed over today, Friday, 10 April 2026, to three schools in Giyani as part of the Limpopo Provincial Government’s Service Delivery Week.

- Hanyani Thomo High School, Ka Thomo Block 7: 70 bicycles
- Nwakhada Secondary School, Ka-Kheyi: 10 bicycles
- Nghonyama High School, Mageva Village (Dzumeri): 70 bicycles

MEC Mathye was accompanied by officials from the Department of Education in the District, Local Traditional Leaders, Acting HOD for Transport and Community Safety Oupa Nkanyane, and Speaker of Mopani District Municipality, Councillor Martha Maswanganyi.
MEC Mathye stated: “Government provides scholar transport for learners who travel more than 5 km.
“Those traveling less do not qualify, and it is for this reason we are using the Shova Kalula program to assist learners so they do not walk long distances and get tired.
“The bicycles are meant to assist learners to access education with ease and to excel. Learners must improve and pass with distinctions.
“Bicycles must not be used to go anywhere else other than to school. Learners must behave and avoid wrong behavior and criminality.”
The Shovakalula Project continues to reduce walking distances for learners in rural areas, promoting punctuality, safety, and better academic performance.
