Johannesburg – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member Nombuso Njokwe has been appointed as Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Public Safety, Sports, Arts and Culture in the Sedibeng District Municipality.
Commenting on the appointment over the weekend, the EFF said it welcomes Njokwe’s appointment to an MMC in Sedibeng.
“The inclusion of the EFF in government marks a decisive shift away from fragile coalition arrangements towards stable governance focused on service delivery, rather than continuous political management and reconfiguration,” the party said in a statement made available to The Bulrushes.
“This appointment represents a significant milestone for the EFF.
“Since assuming executive responsibilities in municipalities in early 2023, the EFF has demonstrated its capacity as a reliable force in governance, having served at an executive level across all five regions in Gauteng, and now extending to broader provincial influence. “
The EFF said it was no longer a “government in waiting,” but a credible movement “with the ability” to form stable administrations that deliver services.
The EFF stated that its decision to form part of the government in the Sedibeng region will strengthen governance and oversight.
“The people of Sedibeng, particularly in Emfuleni, have endured persistent service delivery failures,” the EFF said.
“Our participation will amplify the voice of the people in both the executive and legislative arms of government in the region. “
The EFF said it has full confidence in the deployment of Fighter Njokwe, a current member of the Provincial Command Team and a former Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
“We wish her well in executing her responsibilities towards building a responsive government for the people of Sedibeng,” the party said.
“The EFF assures residents of the Vaal that our participation is aimed at ensuring stability without compromising the voice of the revolution in council and governance structures, especially given the conditions faced by our people in the region.”
