Cape Town – The Electoral Commission (IEC) says by-elections in the Western Cape today, Wednesday 29 April 2026, are being contested by 10 candidates from eight political parties.
The IEC said the Wards being contested for became vacant after the resignations of councillors.
In a terse statement made available to The Bulrushes, the IEC said the by-elections “were progressing well”.
The IEC said the candidates contesting today’s by-elections are:
Western Cape
Ward 16 in the Stellenbosch Municipality – WC024, will be contested by five political party candidates.
- Cornelius Henry Du Toit of the African National Congress (ANC)
- Niklaas Willemse of the Democratic Alliance (DA)
- Elsabe Vermeulen of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)
- Hajiera Arnolds of the GOOD Party
- Tanya Annalise Daniels of the Truth and Solidarity Movement (TRUTH)
The IEC said the Ward became vacant because of the resignation of the councillor.
Ward 25 in the George Municipality – WC044 will be contested by five political party candidates.
- Ruchiano Olyn of the ANC
- Jarques Denvar Esau of the DA
- Deon Godfrey Leminie of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)
- Zane Jaquin Arends of the Patriotic Alliance (PA)
- Zarina MC White of the TRUTH
The IEC said the Ward became vacant because of the resignation of the councillor.
