Durban – Just before 11pm on Tuesday, ALS Paramedics responded to a horrific crash on the M1 Higginson Highway East Bound before Havenside Robots in Chatsworth.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said when ALSParamedics arrived on the scene, they found “chaos and carnage”.

Two vehicles, both bakkies, had collided head on. As the paramedics approached the crash scene, one of the vehicles burst into flames.

Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two male occupants were severely entrapped in one of the vehicles.

“Unfortunately, there was nothing the Paramedics could do except wait for the Ethekweni Fire Department,” Jamieson said.

“Once the fire had been extinguished, paramedics assessed the patients; however, both men had sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased on the scene.”

The second driver had sustained minor injuries and was treated and transported to the hospital under police guard.

At this stage, the events leading up to the crash were unknown.

Police were in attendance at the crash scene.
