Mkhuhlu – Four people were shot dead and another seriously wounded when their car came under a hail of bullets in Mkhuhlu, near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
The shooting occurred at night on Sunday, 12 July 2026.
A preliminary South African Police Service (SAPS) investigation has revealed that the victims were shot at while seated inside their VW Golf, which was parked at the entrance of a house in Mkhuhlu.
Four people – three males and a female – in the VW Golf were declared dead on the scene, and the lone survivor was admitted to hospital.
Two of the vehicle occupants were known by the people residing at the house.
Acting Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi told reporters on Monday, 13 July 2026: “I must indicate that as the SAPS, since last night, we intensified our deployment at the area where the incident happened.
“We want to ensure that all the people who did what they did last night are being brought to book.”
Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi said the motive for the multiple murders was yet to be established.
A large contingent of police was deployed in the area to investigate and find the shooters.
