Mashishing (Lydenburg) – The driver of a blue hatchback VW Polo and three passengers died after their car overturned along the R577, between Mashishing and Roossenekal, in Mpumalanga.

One person with injuries survived the morning crash on Saturday, 18 July 2026.

However, authorities have withheld the identities of the deceased until their next of kin were informed about the tragedy.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison Jackie Macie said he was seriously concerned about fatal road crashes in the province.

“We cannot allow road deaths to become so frequent when most of these incidents are avoidable,” MEC Macie said.

“All that is required is responsible driver behaviour to end this mayhem and make our roads safer.

“We all need to obey the rules.”

The MEC conveyed sympathies to the grieving families and wished the lone survivor a swift recovery.

A probe is underway to determine the exact cause of the fatal crash.
