Polokwane – The Limpopo South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Choir has been crowned Overall Champions in the Large Category at the prestigious 6th Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Eisteddfod.
This achievement was a reward for an outstanding performance that showcased musical excellence, discipline, and teamwork.
The event started with a Gala Dinner at Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou on Friday night, 24 July 2026, followed by the Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Festival at Malamulele Community Hall, which brought together choirs from across South Africa in celebration of choral music, culture and social cohesion.
Under the leadership and baton of Captain Moraka Mokgolo, the SAPS Provincial Choir competed in two categories, finishing fourth in the Prescribed Piece and first in the Own Choice Piece.
Their combined scores secured the overall first position in the Large Category, earning them the coveted championship title.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers congratulated the choir on its remarkable achievement.
He described the victory as a reflection of the discipline, unity and commitment that define SAPS members.
“This victory belongs to every choir member who dedicated their time and talent to represent Limpopo SAPS with distinction,” said Major General Scheepers.
“It demonstrates that the values of discipline, teamwork and excellence that guide our policing duties also inspire success beyond the workplace.
“We are immensely proud of this achievement.”
Major General Scheepers also expressed appreciation to the Dr SJ Khosa Choral Music Eisteddfod Organising Committee, Vhembe District Municipality and the Collins Chabane Local Municipality for providing a platform that continues to promote cultural heritage, social cohesion and community unity through music.
“The SAPS remains committed to building safer communities, not only through effective policing, but also by actively participating in initiatives that strengthen social cohesion and celebrate our rich cultural heritage,” said Major General Scheepers.
The choir’s latest triumph further cements the Limpopo SAPS Choir’s reputation of excellence.
It also highlights the important role the SAPS continues to play in fostering positive community relations beyond its core policing mandate.
SAPS senior management attended the event in support of the choir, including Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Corporate Services, Major General FM Sebola, Mopani District Commissioner, Major General SW Mashava, Acting Vhembe District Commissioner, Brigadier S Mukwevho, Malamulele Station Commander, Colonel WO Mabasa and the Provincial Executive members of POLMUSCA.
