Polokwane – An argument between brothers over the property left behind by their late parents has landed 53-year-old police officer, Evans Mongwe, in hot water.
During the heated argument, the police officer, initially reported as being from the Hawks, allegedly pointed a firearm at his 48-year-old younger brother.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the incident allegedly occurred at Mafarana Village in the Letsitele policing area, Mopani District, on 19 July 2026.
The matter was reported to the police, and the accused was arrested on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
His service firearm, together with rounds of ammunition, was confiscated.
On Tuesday, 28 July 2026, the 53-year-old police officer appeared before the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted bail of R2 500.
The matter, which is being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, was adjourned to 26 August 2026.
