Richards Bay – Popular maskandi artist Scebi Dlamini has died in a car crash at the traffic light opposite Melomed Hospital in Richards Bay.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma said the musician died earlier today, Sunday, 9 August 2026.
“On this Women’s Day, we wish to express our deepest condolences to the mother of Scebi Dlamini, a popular Maskandi artist who left us this morning in a tragic accident,” MEC Duma said.
He said the tragedy occurred opposite Melomed Hospital in Richards Bay.
“The team from the Road Traffic Inspectorate, Umhlathuze Traffic, working with the South African Police Service and other emergency rescue services, did everything in their power, but unfortunately Inkosi Yamagcokama succumbed to severe injuries and died at the scene of the accident,” said MEC Duma.
“One of the three occupants who were taken to the hospital has unfortunately departed.
“We express our deepest condolences to the mother of the occupant, and we wish those two other victims a speedy recovery.”
MEC Duma said the popular maskandi artist, Scebi Dlamini, also known as “Inkosi Yamagcokama,” has been an invaluable asset to the nation.
He will be fondly remembered for his hit songs that included Akuhlukaneki, Mina Ngithathiwe, and Ngixolele.
“He was a remarkable artist who carved for himself a niche in the hearts and minds of millions of Maskanda music lovers,” lamented the MEC.
“He was admired for his humility and for putting Umsinga on the map.
“As we mourn with a deep sense of sadness his passing, we are confident that his legacy will inspire many aspiring Maskandi to improve this genre, which is growing in leaps and bounds.”
