Johannesburg – Police have arrested a second suspect in connection with the brutal killing of two Anti-Gang Unit members and two women in Reiger Park last week.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that a 24-year-old man was taken into custody in the afternoon on Sunday, 18 August 2026.

Two police officers, Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane and Constable Sphiwe Sibeko, were shot dead when they responded to gunfire in Reiger Park.

Two women were also fatally shot.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the arrest followed an intensive tracing operation led by a multidisciplinary team comprising the Hawks,  Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, and the flying squad.

Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane commended the Reiger Park community for its active role in assisting investigators.

“This arrest is not only a victory for SAPS; it is also a demonstration of the power of a community that refuses to be silenced by criminals,” said Dimpane.

“We commend the people of Reiger Park who stood up, spoke up and shared information with the police.

“Your courage and willingness to work with law enforcement has made a difference.”

So far, two suspects have now been arrested in connection with the murders.

Earlier this week, 23-year-old Reagan Collis appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on four counts of murder.

He remains in custody, with his formal bail application scheduled for 25 August 2026.

The newly arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court this week.

Lieutenant General Dimpane assured residents that SAPS and its law enforcement partners will continue working tirelessly to bring those responsible for gang violence to justice.

“We want the people of Reiger Park to know that we hear you. We appreciate those who have chosen to stand up and speak up.

“Your information matters, and your courage strengthens our investigations. We will continue working with you to reclaim our communities from criminals,” she said.

Constable Sibeko was buried on Saturday, 15 August 2026, while Constable Tlomatsane was laid to rest earlier today, Sunday, 16 August 2026, in Limpopo.
