Mbombela (Nelspruit) – The Police in Mpumalanga are offering a reward of R100 000 for information that can lead to the arrest and conviction of double murder suspect Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane.
Dubbed “Calcutta’s most wanted,” Matsane was allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of two men at a tavern in Marite in Calcutta on 15 May 2023.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo urged anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect Phumulani Ezekiel Matsane to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Madala Ndashe on 076 244 8577 or Lieutenant Colonel Freddy Magagula on 082 780 6815.
“All information will be treated with confidentiality,” said Colonel Masondo.
“The public is advised not to attempt to apprehend the suspect because he is considered armed and very dangerous.”
The South African Police Service Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, said the police were working hard to deal with crime in the area under the Calcutta policing precinct, including areas like Mkhuhlu where several murder incidents were recently reported.
Colonel Masondo said police could not rule out the possibility of Matsane’s involvement in other murders that were under investigation.
