Midlands – For generations, Saturday has been the traditional day to tie the knot, particularly in Western cultures.
Yet some of the world’s most high-profile weddings, including those of many senior British royals, have taken place during the week.
And today, couples are increasingly rewriting the rulebook when it comes to many long-held traditions, increasingly choosing celebrations that reflect their lifestyle, values and priorities.
For some, that includes rethinking which day of the week they choose to say “I do”.

“And while Saturdays will probably always remain the traditional preference.”
She adds: “There is much to be said in favour of midweek nuptials.
“Possibly the biggest advantage being how many more choices are available to couples, making a compelling case for those looking to do things a little differently.”
Gonyora offers five reasons to consider saying “I do” on a weekday:
1. Skip the Wait
Not every couple wants a long engagement.
One of the biggest challenges of planning a wedding is finding a date in your preferred month at the venue you’ve set your heart on, particularly if you’re planning a destination celebration.
Weekend availability at sought-after venues can book up months, or even a year, in advance.
Choosing a weekday opens more possibilities, giving couples far greater flexibility, rather than settling for the next available Saturday.
Whether it’s to fit in with work, family plans or simply because you want to begin the next chapter, it can mean less waiting.
2. Secure the Suppliers You Really Want
From photographers and florists to musicians and celebrants, the most in-demand wedding professionals generally have packed weekend calendars.
A midweek celebration can make it easier to secure their services, helping bring your wedding vision to life without compromise.
3. Value for Money
Weekday weddings can also offer better value, with many venues and suppliers offering more favourable midweek rates.
This means that couples can redirect those savings towards the elements that matter most to them, whether that’s a more elaborate menu, upgraded accommodation, additional décor or an extended honeymoon.
4. A More Intimate Atmosphere
Not all invited guests will be able to take time away from work or other commitments to attend a weekday wedding, particularly if it involves travelling to a destination venue.
While that may result in a slightly smaller guest list, it can also create a more intimate celebration where couples can spend more meaningful time with family and friends who are able to share the day with them.
5. Make More of the Occasion
For couples opting for a destination wedding, any savings on accommodation may encourage some guests to extend their stay.
