The South African Father At The Heart Of Hisense’s New FIFA World Cup Film

Global electronics brand gives its FIFA World Cup sponsorship a deeply local heartbeat through a story about fathers, football, and the dreams children carry

Johannesburg – In the early hours of an ordinary working day, a father is already moving.

The day begins at home, with a father and his young son washing his taxi together.

It is an ordinary moment: water, soap, conversation and the familiar ritual of preparing the vehicle that will soon carry passengers through another working day.

But within that simple exchange, something bigger begins to emerge.

For many South African parents, these everyday moments are rarely described as sacrifice.

They are simply part of showing up: working, providing, teaching and creating opportunities so that the next generation can dream bigger, go further and imagine possibilities beyond those that came before.

That emotional truth sits at the centre of Hisense South Africa’s new FIFA World Cup campaign film, Every Journey Leads to a Dream.

As an Official Sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026, Hisense could have told a story built around stadium lights, famous footballers or the roar of a crowd.

Instead, the brand chose something more intimate and recognisably South African: a taxi driver, his son and a quiet moment shared while washing the vehicle that represents both his father’s livelihood and, ultimately, the journey towards his son’s dreams.

Filmed across Johannesburg and Soweto, the film follows the father through an ordinary working day.

During the day, his son notices the FIFA World Cup branding wrapped around the taxi.

Curious and wide-eyed, he runs his hand across the logo and asks whether the tournament is really as big as people say.

Then comes the line that gives the story its heart.

“One day,” the boy says, “I want to play there.”

His father does not make a grand speech. He does not promise that the road will be easy.

He simply gives his son what so many children need most: belief.

“Ngelinye ilanga uzofika lapho,” he tells him. One day, you will get there.

“Never stop dreaming.”

It is a small moment, but it carries the weight of countless South African households.

The parents who wake early.

The fathers and mothers who travel far.

The caregivers who stretch, plan, work and hope in the background so that their children can see possibility ahead of them.

“The father became the emotional centre of the film very early on because his story is one so many South Africans will recognise,” said Luna Nortje, Deputy General Manager at Hisense South Africa.

“Across the country, parents wake up every day and quietly do what needs to be done so their children can have more opportunities than they had.

“This campaign is about that kind of love,  the kind that does not always announce itself, but shows up every day.

“As a brand, Hisense wanted to honour those everyday journeys and the dreams they help make possible.”

While the film is rooted in football, its message reaches beyond the pitch.

It speaks to the universal hope parents carry for their children: that they will have the confidence to dream, the support to keep going and the belief that where they come from does not have to limit where they can go.

The film gives the campaign its emotional centre.

The wider campaign gives that emotion something tangible to stand on.

Through retail activations, community initiatives and youth-focused experiences, Hisense extended the message beyond the screen and into spaces where South Africans could participate, play, learn and imagine what their own next journey might look like.

During the FIFA World Cup season, Hisense brought the campaign into HiFi Corp and Incredible Connection stores through its Match-Ready Gallery promotion.

Customers purchasing qualifying Hisense televisions, Laser TVs, refrigerators or freezers could scan a QR code displayed in-store, upload a photograph with their product or proof of purchase, and show how they were getting ready for the tournament.

Their photographs became part of the Match-Ready Gallery, with Hisense prizes awarded throughout the campaign.

Foosball games and football-themed activations added to the atmosphere in participating stores, giving families and shoppers a way to share in the anticipation of the tournament together.

Away from retail, Hisense extended the spirit of the campaign through its Hands on the Future initiative, focused on young South Africans whose ambitions stretch beyond the football field.

A group of young footballers from Khayelitsha travelled through Cape Town in a convoy of branded Hisense taxis.

Their first stop was the Hisense Atlantis Factory, where they experienced advanced manufacturing in action and were introduced to career possibilities they may not previously have imagined.

From there, the group travelled to Table Mountain. Looking out over Cape Town, each child was asked a simple question: “What is your biggest dream?”

Some wanted to play for Bafana Bafana. Others spoke about becoming doctors, teachers, entrepreneurs and community leaders. Different dreams, but the same need beneath them: access, encouragement and someone willing to believe with them.

At the Hisense Tevolution Museum, the children explored the history of display technology and helped create a new community mural.

The programme ended where many of their dreams began, on a football field.

Working with Pitso Mosimane Youth Football, Hisense supported ten local teams representing approximately 160 young players.

The teams received new football kits, equipment and access to professional coaching before competing for the Hisense Future Trophy in a community tournament.

For Hisense, this gave the campaign practical meaning.

Telling a child to dream carries more weight when there is somewhere to play, equipment to use, a coach to learn from and a community willing to stand behind them.

In Every Journey Leads to a Dream, the father does not know exactly where his son’s dream will lead.

What he does know is that belief matters.

A few words on an ordinary morning can stay with a child for years.

“Ngelinye ilanga uzofika lapho.”

One day, you will get there.

And perhaps that is the real power of the campaign: not only the excitement of the FIFA World Cup, but the reminder that behind every dream is often someone making the journey possible long before the world is watching.
