Pretoria – Suspended ailing deputy head of Crime Intelligence Major General Feroz Khan has been fired from the South African Police Service (SAPS).

Major General Khan, who twice failed to appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry citing ill health, also missed court appearances and his disciplinary matter.

Earlier this year in June, Major General Khan survived a shooting and was hospitalised just before he was due to appear before the Madlanga Commission.

Evidence led at the inquiry in his absence includes WhatsApp chats showing him allegedly facilitating SAPS tenders for businessman Mohamed “Mo” Sayed.

Investigators flagged his unexplained wealth, including a property portfolio worth about R39 million and a fleet of 30 vehicles purchased in a single year.

While his legal team cites medical incapacity, the Madlanga Commission and SAPS disciplinary bodies were increasingly sceptical.

The Madlanga Commission has ordered that Major General Khan undergo an independent medical assessment to determine whether he is fit to testify.

On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, the SAPS announced that Major General Feroz Khan had been fired from the service.

Commenting on the matter, police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed Major General Khan’s dismissal.

“Major General Khan was deemed dismissed in terms of Regulation 9(7)(b) of the SAPS Discipline Regulations, following his failure to appear before the designated senior officer responsible for dealing with the expeditious disciplinary process,” said Brigadier Mathe.

“SAPS reiterates its commitment to accountability, discipline and professional conduct within the organisation.

“No member, regardless of rank or position, is above the law or the applicable disciplinary framework.”

Brigadier Mathe added: “As the matter has been the subject of legal proceedings, SAPS will continue to respect and abide by the decisions of the courts and provide further information where legally permissible”.
