DRUG BUST: Police seized cocaine weighing 2 Kg at OR Tambo International Airport

Johannesburg – Alert authorities at OR Tambo International Airport have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and seized about two kilograms of cocaine.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the illicit drug contraband had an estimated street value of over R800 000.

She said the 45-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday, 7 September 2026, following intelligence-led information.

“He was allegedly en route to Hong Kong, China, when police arrested him at the airport,” said the police spokesperson.

“A subsequent search of his luggage resulted in the seizure of drugs suspected to be cocaine.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court this week on drug-related charges.

“This is the second drug mule arrested in four days following the arrest of a 54-year-old drug mule on 3 September 2026 at the same airport,” said Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk.

“The suspect was also en route to Hong Kong, China, where he was arrested for cocaine found concealed inside his luggage.”

Lieutenant Colonel Van Wyk said the successive successes at South Africa’s busiest airport demonstrate the South African Police Service’s efforts to disrupt and dismantle drug trafficking networks through intelligence-driven operations at ports of entry.
