Pretoria – Former National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula was a no-show at her corruption trial in the High Court in Pretoria

Mapisa-Nqakula, who is accused of soliciting bribes of R4,5 million from a contractor when she was Minister of Defence, fell ill yesterday, Wednesday 9 September 2026, while testifying in her trial.

Mapisa-Nqakula denies the 12 charges levelled against her.

Today, Thursday 10 September 2026, Mapisa-Nqakula’s lawyer, Advocate Siyabulela Maphoma, SC, handed over a sick note to the court stating that she was not well enough to appear.

He requested an adjournment of the matter to 16 September.

Judge Mashudu Munzhelele concurred and adjourned the matter, but not before she issued a warrant of arrest for the ailing accused Mapisa-Nqakula, who is out on R50 000 bail.

However, the warrant was held over until her matter resumes.
