Pinetown – A driver died after his light motor vehicle collided with a truck carrying cars along the N3 Pietermaritzburg-bound near Richmond Road off-ramp in Pinetown.

ALS Paramedics was alerted of the deadly crash just after 11:30 pm on Monday, 5 October 2026.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said that when ALS Paramedics arrived on the scene, they found chaos and carnage.

Paramedics established that the truck car carrier collided with a light motor vehicle, lost control, and crashed into a bridge pillar.

“The light motor vehicle driver, a male believed to be in his 40s, had unfortunately sustained major fatal injuries, and there was nothing Paramedics could do for him; he was declared deceased on the scene,” said Jamieson.

“The truck driver was found severely entrapped in the wreckage, and immediately the eThekwini Fire Department was dispatched to assist.

“The eThekwini Fire Department worked for approximately two hours to free the severely entrapped driver whilst Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilise the man in the Truck Cabin.”

The man had sustained critical injuries and, once freed, was carefully extricated and placed into an awaiting ALS Paramedics’ ambulance before being transported to a nearby hospital.

The police were also on the scene.
