Johannesburg – Crime-accused Brown Mogotsi wants to know the name, address, employment, and work hours of the witness who claimed they saw him firing his gun at his own car in a staged assassination attempt.
Mogotsi – a self-proclaimed political fixer – has been behind bars since May and has thrice failed in his attempts to get bail.
The North West businessman, who has failed to convince the court that he has a fixed abode, faces several charges, including the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area/public place, perjury, and defeating the ends of justice.
The charges emanate from allegations that Mogotsi staged a shooting incident in Vosloorus and falsely reported it as an attempt on his life.

Before his arrest, Mogotsi’s links to suspended police minister, Senzo Mchunu, and crime-accused businessmen Vusimuzi Cat Matlala and Suliman Carrim came under scrutiny at the Madlanga Commission.
At the time, Mogotsi presented a confident posture amplified by his fancy red jacket.
Citing his right not to incriminate himself, Mogotsi declined to answer questions during his appearance.
Today, Friday, 23 October 2026, Mogotsi looked nervous in the dock at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
He kept touching his face and pulling faces as if he were in agony.
Perhaps he had realised he was in a fix and couldn’t sit still.
The accused seems to have set aside his desire to be freed on bail and has instead sought to have the State reveal details of their witness.
In court, defence lawyer Nthabiseng Mohomane read Mogotsi’s affidavit that said: “The withholding of the witness identities and identifying particulars materially impairs my ability to investigate allegations, to assess credibility and possible motive.”
The lawyer said her client wants employment details of the witness to enable him to verify what time they were working on the day in question.
Mogotsi is challenging the version of the witness.
Mogotsi’s bid to force the State to disclose witness identities and other evidence was postponed to 13 November after prosecutors sought time to respond to the application.
The accused was remanded in custody.
