Johannesburg – Justice and Constitutional Development Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi is pursuing legal action against a person with a Facebook handle titled “Baas Kruger” who falsely claimed that she said she was “squeezing March and March like cranberries”.
Last month, the High Court in Durban ordered March and March, the anti-immigrant group, to suspend its protests until November 6, after the local government elections.
The Baas Kruger Facebook account subsequently accused Minister Kubayi of saying she was squeezing March and March like cranberries.
A statement issued on Friday, 6 November 2026, attributed to Palesa Rammitlwa, spokesperson to Minister Kubayi, said: “On multiple occasions, this account has made serious false allegations against the Minister and continues to disseminate false claims and drive a narrative about her that amounts to cyberbullying”.
The statement added: “Left with no alternative, Minister Kubayi has taken the extraordinary step to protect her dignity and reputation and hold those responsible accountable, as repeated appeals for this person to stop this disinformation have been ignored.
“The current furore regarding this disinformation campaign, which she strongly condemned, was sparked by a doorstep interview at the ANC’s Siyanqoba Rally in the Eastern Cape.”
A clip of the minister responding to a question by the SABC journalist Mr. Samkele Maseko about the March and March movement being “squeezed like cranberries” is circulating on social media platforms.
“The phrase was used by the journalist in his question,” explained Rammitlwa.
“Minister Kubayi did not utter these words, and any claim suggesting otherwise is false and misleading.
“The minister will not allow this to go unchallenged.”
Rammitlwa said Minister Kubayi remains accountable for her statements, but attributing words she did not utter to her was unacceptable.
However, Baas Kruger did not desist from his posts targeting Minister Kubayi. In response, Baas Kruger posted this:
