Johannesburg – Adverse weather conditions, including snow and heavy rainfall, have severely impacted road conditions in the Eastern Cape and North West provinces.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation RTMC) announced on Thursday, 7 May 2026, that several roads remain closed across the Overberg, Garden Route & Central Karoo due to flooding.

However, the RTMC said the Huisrivier Pass & Prince Albert–Klaarstroom have since reopened.

“Severe weather conditions are expected to continue in the Garden Route and the surrounding areas today after heavy winds, rain, and flooding occurred,” the RMTC said.

“Motorists are further advised not to cross flooded roads.”

The RMTC urged motorists to cooperate and comply with official notices and all the rules of the road.

“It is always better to arrive home late than not to arrive at all,” the RMTC said.
