Graskop – Acting on a tip-off, police in Mpumalanga flagged down a Quantum minibus taxi and uncovered a staggering R6 million worth of packed dagga and made two arrests.

The dagga bust unfolded on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, outside Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg) when police deployed a patrol vehicle to monitor the suspects’ route.

Police spotted the Quantum, tailed it for a while, before pulling it over in Graskop.

Inside the minibus taxi, officers discovered a massive haul: dagga weighing approximately 1,025 kilograms, neatly stashed and ready for distribution.

Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe confirmed the arrests of the two men, aged 26 and 28.

“Charges of possession of dagga and dealing in dagga were opened against the pair,” she said.

Acting Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, applauded the offices involved in the operation, hailing it as a significant strike against the illegal drug trade in the province.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Graskop Magistrate’s Court soon.
