Johannesburg – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has offered a cash reward of R500 000 for information that leads to the successful criminal prosecution of the murderer of multiple women in Ekurhuleni.
The reward was announced on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, by Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, DA Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate in response to the police confirmation that an eighth body had been discovered.
On Tuesday, 15 September 2026, after the eighth body of a woman was discovered, the South African Police Service (SAPS) announced a R400 000 reward for information that could lead to arrests and breakthroughs in investigations.
The bodies, some of them half-naked and others in an advanced stage of decomposition, were discovered in different parts of Ekurhuleni over the past two months.
Acting SAPS National Commissioner Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane said the latest victim, a 35-year-old woman who has not yet been identified, was found in KwaThema on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
As the bodies pile up, fears have heightened about the possibility of a serial killer on the loose.
However, police have cautioned against prematurely concluding that the killings are the work of a serial offender, saying investigations are continuing and the cases may be distinct incidents.
Police have revealed that one suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 37-year-old woman whose body was found in Ekurhuleni.
So far, police said only two of the murdered women have been identified.
Rasilingwane said the DA was adding to the reward offered by the police because “as a party we care deeply about the safety of women in Ekurhuleni, and South Africa at large”.
The Ekurhuleni Mayoral Candidate said the DA was offering an additional cash reward of R500 000 for information that leads to the successful criminal prosecution of the murderer of multiple women in Ekurhuleni.
“As the DA Mayoral Candidate for Ekurhuleni, the more I can do to help bring this perpetrator to book, the more we will do,” Rasilingwane said.
“I want to see Ekurhuleni safer, and better governed, as soon as possible – and that means ensuring murderers are arrested and put in jail.
“The DA is adding to the efforts of law enforcement already under way, and we are doing this to supplement and augment those efforts.
“The DA is adding extra reason for all relevant information to be handed over now, to address this crisis quickly.”
Lieutenant-General Puleng Dimpane said the police have put together a specialised multidisciplinary task team, including crime intelligence and detectives, to investigate the cases and determine whether any links exist between the deaths.
