Johannesburg – The suspended senior police officer accused of grooming a 16-year-old girl and raping an 18-year-old woman has been named as Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya.
The 59-year-old accused made a highly anticipated appearance at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 22 September 2026.
The suspended lieutenant general was arrested at a strip club in Sandton on Monday, 21 September 2026, by members of the police Commission’s Recommendations Task Team.
He faces charges relating to the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026, as well as the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman.
The alleged rape is reported to have occurred at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026.
Lieutenant General Sibiya was Deputy National Commissioner of Police for Crime Detection when he was suspended in July 2025 over the dodgy movement of crime dockets.
His role in the docket matter was ventilated in the ongoing Madlanga Commission.
The suspended top cop was remanded in custody at Kgosi Mampuru II, a high-security prison in Pretoria, until next Tuesday, 29 September 2026, for a bail application.
Lieutenant General Sibiya was moved to the maximum-security prison amid fears of a possible escape and threats to witnesses.
