“The fact that 27 suspects were arrested on Voting Day demonstrates the responsiveness and operational effectiveness of law enforcement agencies,” Lieutenant General Mosikili said.
“These interventions reinforce a clear position that the electoral environment is protected by the rule of law, and intimidation, violence, electoral misconduct and criminality will not be tolerated.
“To date, we have registered 21 murder cases which are politically motivated in relation to the election period, this includes the murder of a MK Party member in KwaZulu-Natal.”
As part of the post-election phase of the plan, police are also processing murder cases that occurred outside the voting stations and outside voting hours, in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
A 57-year-old man was shot and killed in the early hours of this morning, on Thursday, 5 November 2026, and in another unrelated incident in Limpopo, where police registered a murder case of a 31-year-old man following a stabbing at a park opposite Florapark Comprehensive School in Polokwane.
In the Limpopo murder case, police have arrested a 35-year-old man.
Another case of murder was reported in KwaZulu-Natal of a man who was attacked and killed while walking home on Voting Day.
NATJOINTS said since Monday, two additional deaths were reported, involving an elderly woman who collapsed and subsequently passed away upon arrival at hospital in Shallcross, KwaZulu-Natal.
The other death was of an IEC official who also collapsed at Buhrmansdrift in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, North West, on 2 November.
“We further acknowledge the importance of maintaining discipline and accountability within the electoral environment,” Lieutenant General Mosikili said.
“Cooperation between law enforcement and the IEC enabled swift interventions in reported incidents, including action against IEC officials implicated in alleged electoral transgressions.
“SAPS also acted against a member in KwaZulu-Natal who arrived at a voting station in a vehicle displaying political party branding, which is testament to our institutional position that, No individual is above the law.”
