Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has tested positive for Covid-19 on Christmas Eve.

“MEC Lesufi felt unwell last night and struggled to breathe, which prompted him to go test for Covid-19 this morning and his results came back positive,” said Gauteng Department of Education Spokesperson Steve Mabona on Friday.

“In addition to being previously vaccinated, he is currently self-isolating in his home and feeling better subsequent to him experiencing Covid-19 symptoms before testing.

“We wish to advise people who had been in contact with MEC Lesufi prior to him testing positive for Covid-19 to either monitor themselves for any flu-like symptoms or go get tested accordingly.”

Panyaza is in isolation and is receiving treatment.

#COVID19 UPDATE: A total of 72,689 tests were conducted in the last 24hrs, with 21,157 new cases, which represents a 29.1% positivity rate. A further 75 #COVID19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 90,662 to date. See more here: https://t.co/GXNPlTnrm1 pic.twitter.com/Ue4s8i2Gkq
