The trial of five men accused of the murder of football star Senzo Meyiwa took a dramatic turn on Thursday when defence lawyer Advocate Malesela Teffo was handcuffed by police inside the Pretoria High Court.
The five men accused of the murder of the goalkeepr include Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli.
Advocate Teffo is representing four of the accused.
Several police moved in to arrest Advocate Teffo soon after Judge Maumela adjourned the murder trial.
The reasons for the drama filled arrest of Advocate Teffo remain sketchy, with unconfirmed reports saying he failed to appear in court to face allegations of assault.
Apparently a warrant for Advocate Teffo’s arrest was issued months ago.
Meyiwa, who played for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana, was shot dead in October 2014 at the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.
The trial will resume at the end of May.
